Dr. Samarth Vadia, CEO and Co-Founder, Linque GmbH

Samarth Vadia is the CEO and co-founder of Linque. Linque provides energy-efficient and faster computing hardware for next-generation algorithms and compute needs. Previously, Dr. Vadia did his PhD in Physics at LMU Munich with the focus in the area of quantum optics. He has previously worked at deep-tech companies like attocube systems AG and Menlo Systems, and his education at MIT and IIT Delhi.

All-Optical Silicon Photonic Switching to overcome Networking Wall

 

Abstract:

Optical switching has the potential to significantly reduce operational costs of the next generation of AI data center networks. However, as models grow in size and performance, communication bandwidth requirements concentrate in the scale-up domain, dominated by traffic patterns shorter than the switching speed of conventional optical networking systems. This means that despite the future scale-up roadmap using optics, it is open question whether optical networks can bring the same benefit to the scale-up it offers to the scale-out. However, these systems that switch faster than burst lengths of AI-related collective operations enable those gains and have the potential to significantly reduce the power consumption and bill of materials throughout the entire optical networking stack. This talk will give an overview of the requirements for fast optical switching, the current state of implementation and the potential benefits to the optical scale-up.
