Accelerating Compound Semiconductors: Innovation and Supply Chain Evolution Under AI Demand

Compound semiconductors have been known for broad adoption across automotive, telecom and datacom, industrial, and consumer sectors. Today, the rapid rise of high-performance computing and generative AI is compressing development cycles, pushing next-generation systems toward faster switching, smaller form factors, and higher energy efficiency. Nowhere is this clearer than in the AI data center. As rack-level power climbs, power architecture shifts toward 800 V DC distribution and solid-state transformers, opening new opportunities to grow for WBG devices, namely SiC and GaN. In parallel, the data-rate requirements of AI clusters are reshaping photonics: InP enables high-speed lasers and modulators as the industry moves to 200G per lane and beyond. Meanwhile, the supply chain is being  reshaped, as manufacturing platform migration toward 6" and 8", and capacity expansion relies on both newly invested facilities, as well as converting existing ones to new platform. In this presentation, Yole will highlight the latest market trends and technology roadmaps across different Compound Semiconductors and discuss how the supply chain is poised to evolve in response to the growing demands of the AI era.

Poshun is engaged in developing technology and market products and is involved in custom projects.

Before joining Yole Group, Poshun had 9 years’ experience in R&D and product management at Epistar. He is the author or co-author of more than 10 patents in solid-state lighting. Poshun was also engaged in developing and evaluating novel applications of process technology and components based on relevant semiconductor material systems.

Poshun received an MSc in microelectronics from National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan) and an MBA from IESEG School of Management (France).
