Quantum Computing as a Service for Financial Decision Making

Quantum computing enters finance as a service layer. Here we present a quantum computing-as-a-service architecture for financial decision-making: middleware that compiles an applied problem into the quantum model best suited to it, selects the engine that solves that model, and routes it to the most capable computational backend available at the time. An institution states the decision it needs to make; the service layer supplies the algorithm and the hardware behind it. No one on the customer side needs to become a quantum physicist.

The compilation step is where the work lives. Expressing a financial problem as a quantum model — a QUBO energy function, a financial network graph, a parameterized quantum circuit — demands a formulation faithful enough to preserve the business question and efficient enough to solve at production scale. Once a problem is expressed this way, the backend becomes a matter of scale and availability rather than of architecture. The same formulation runs today on GPU-accelerated quantum simulation and quantum-inspired solvers, already delivering measurable gains in portfolio construction, financial crime detection, and market scenario modeling, and extends to annealing hardware and to quantum processors as they mature. Financial institutions can adopt quantum methods now and scale into quantum hardware as it arrives.

Yen-Jui Chang is Founder at Quanaxis, where he develops quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms for the financial industry. His work focuses on taking problems financial institutions already care about — how to construct a portfolio, how to find financial crime inside a stream of transactions, how to model what a market might do next — and turning them into forms that quantum and quantum-inspired methods can solve. He has built and validated engines for portfolio allocation, feature selection, distribution generation and quantum machine learning, and has run them against real market and transaction data with financial institutions in Taiwan. He is also an Assistant Professor at Chung Yuan Christian University, and a physicist by background.
