In 1981 Richard Feynman argued that if you want to simulate nature, you had better make your computer quantum mechanical. Forty-five years later, that idea runs in data centers. Born from the Nobel-winning physics of Alain Aspect, Pasqal builds neutral-atom quantum processors now operating in data centers across three continents. Recent milestones include defect-free arrays of 1,024 qubits, the first differential equations solved with logical qubits, and simulations of quantum materials that would take classical supercomputers weeks without convergence guarantees. This talk traces the path from roadmap to reality and asks what quantum computing means for the industry.

With 30 years’ experience in strategy, business development and innovation across high-tech industries in Europe, Asia, and the USA, Roberto is consistently at the forefront of the global technology revolution that accelerates and amplifies disruptions across industries. His areas of interest are technology (quantum, AI, innovation, transformation, ecosystems); people (personal and organizational leadership); and ethics (tech for good).

Before joining Pasqal in 2024, Roberto spent two decades in global, regional, and local leadership roles at a global leading technology company headquartered in Asia. He led projects in strategy, product, business development, marketing, and operations across Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, and served as Vice-President of Strategy, Marketing and External Relations for its leading European subsidiary. He was later appointed Managing Director Europe of the company’s open-innovation unit, headquartered in Silicon Valley, leading direct investments and partnerships in European innovation ecosystems focused on data-driven businesses, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies. An active contributor to the French president’s initiative “Tech for Good Summit”, he championed the development of ethical technologies that put innovation at the service of humanity.

Earlier in his career, Roberto worked in business development initially in Europe for an Italian high-tech firm, then in Asia for the US leader in internetworking.

Roberto holds an MSc in Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Milan (Italy) and an MBA from IMD (Switzerland). He is a dual citizen of the USA and Italy.
