Memory innovation for the AI era: Scaling performance, efficiency and sustainability

AI is driving one of the most significant transformations in computing history, placing unprecedented demands on memory and storage technologies. As data volumes grow and models become increasingly complex, future AI systems will require breakthroughs that extend beyond individual components and span the entire technology stack. 

This keynote will explore the role of memory in enabling the next generation of intelligent systems, from advances in DRAM, NAND and HBM to innovations in packaging, integration and system architecture. It will also examine how research collaboration across industry, academia and ecosystem partners is helping address fundamental challenges in performance, power efficiency and scalability.

By bringing together expertise across materials science, device physics, process technology and system design, the semiconductor ecosystem can accelerate innovation and build the foundation for more powerful and sustainable AI infrastructure. The resulting advances will help unlock new applications, improve resource efficiency and support technologies that address some of society's most important challenges.

Dr. Mark Kiehlbauch

CVP NAND Process Engineering & Equipment, Micron Technology

Mark Kiehlbauch is the corporate vice president of the NAND Process Engineering and Equipment in the Technology and Products Group at Micron Technology. He is an expert in process development, equipment development, metrology, dry etch and advanced patterning/lithography technologies for DRAM, NAND and emerging memory technologies. has more than 25 years of experience in process engineering and equipment development for leading-edge memory technology.   

Mark Kiehlbauch joined Micron in 2005 as a senior manager and has served in a variety of technical and managerial positions throughout his career, including leading DRAM and NAND process engineering. He was appointed to his current role as corporate vice president, leading the NAND Process Engineering & Equipment organization in 2024.

Dr. Kiehlbauch earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Houston and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds 111 U.S. patents and 82 worldwide patents and has authored dozens of technical publications.
