Dr. Wei-Chung Hwang

Deputy General Director, Industrial Technology Research Institute

Dr. Wei-Chung Hwang is the Deputy General Director of the Information and Communications Laboratories (ICL) at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan. He leads initiatives in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity, collaborating with government, industry, and communities to strengthen ICT security and advance data-driven applications in commerce, manufacturing, and healthcare.

 

Dr. Hwang has been instrumental in expanding ITRI’s global collaborations and contributions to international standards. ITRI and ITRI International Inc. are active members of organizations such as ISO, ITU, and NGMN, connecting Taiwan’s innovation with the global ICT ecosystem.

 

He has shared Taiwan’s experience at numerous international forums, including the International Open Data Conference, Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum, Thailand PKI D-Day, and with authorities in India, Peru, and Thailand. His publications include the International Open Data Roadmap (2017) and the FIDO Alliance & Asia PKI Consortium White Paper (2018).

 

Recently, he has worked with Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior, Financial Supervisory Commission, and Ministry of Digital Affairs to strengthen national digital identity services, focusing on interoperability and user experience by adopting global standards such as FIDO2, WebAuthn, and OpenID Connect.
