Sensing the Future: MEMS & Sensors for Intelligent Robotics

The convergence of artificial intelligence, advanced sensing, and computing technologies is reshaping the future of robotics across industries, from smart manufacturing to autonomous and service applications. As robotics continues to expand across diverse platforms - from autonomous vehicles and drones to industrial automation and healthcare applications - the demand for high-performance, reliable, and miniaturized sensing solutions has become increasingly vital while the ability to perceive, interpret, and respond to real-world environments has also become increasingly critical - placing MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and sensors at the core of this transformation. In particular, MEMS and advanced sensors serve as the foundation for perception, navigation, and interaction, empowering robots to operate with greater precision, adaptability, and intelligence in complex real-world environments.

These compact, high-performance components enable critical functionalities, including motion tracking, force and torque sensing, vision and imaging, tactile feedback, and environmental perception such as ultrasonic sensing and LiDAR. By integrating multi-modal sensing with AI-driven processing, robotic systems can achieve enhanced precision, improved safety, and greater operational efficiency.

According to International Federation of Robotics, the global deployment of industrial robots continues to reach record highs, reflecting strong and sustained demand for automation across manufacturing sectors. This trend underscores the critical role of MEMS and advanced sensing technologies in enabling more intelligent and autonomous robotic systems.

In response to this trend, the 2026 SEMICON Taiwan MEMS & Sensors Forum will focus on the theme “Sensing the Future: MEMS & Sensors for Intelligent Robotics,” highlighting key innovations and insights that are shaping the future of intelligent robotic systems.
