Joel Sumner is the head of Semiconductor Systems R&D at NI and is responsible for hardware and software development for NI's instrumentation and test systems for design validation and automated production test of semiconductor devices. Sumner’s areas of expertise include global, multi-site R&D program and people management, market-driven development methodologies, RF/mmWave hardware and measurement techniques, and application software and systems. With 26 years of industry experience, including 20 years at National Instruments and a development role at Motorola Semiconductor, Sumner has served in multiple roles throughout his career including application software development, new product introduction of system programming tools, and inbound marketing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
