The path to 5G adoption is complex, with new opportunities and challenges abounding for mobile network operators, infrastructure providers, device manufacturers and end-users. As experts agree during the Mobile World Congress 2019 (MWC19) that second half of 2019 will be the first year in which 5G technology sees material deployment and during 2020/2021 there will be significant deployments. The industry is learning from initial 5G NR mmWave deployments and identifying better ways of performing system level and functional tests. For 5G, tests need to be conducted over the air (OTA) for mmWave and testing individual components is complex and impractical. Therefore the measurements need to be taken at the end-device level (final product) within the context of the chip’s usage scenarios. In this session we will explore practical aspects, gaps and advantages of using different test methodologies.
