The Research, Innovation and Enterprise ecosystem in Singapore comprises various ministries , Research funding bodies and Research performers. The Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, oversees Singapore’s long term strategy to transform Singapore into a knowledge based society with strong capabilities in research and technology. The RIEC is supported by the National Research Foundation board which is responsible for our 5 year plans and policies to grow Singapore’s Research capability, support economic growth and meet Singapore’s future national challenges.
The advanced manufacturing and engineering (AME) is a key research pillar to Singapore’s manufacturing, semiconductors and precision engineering sectors, which are growth economic areas of Singapore. With consistent R&D investments, Singapore’s microelectronics sector had developed into a vibrant ecosystem with the full value chain of activities from R&D, innovation to commercialisation and production. The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore are the capital of knowledge and innovation in AME with scientific and engineering excellence and technologies. In the recent years, A*STAR and the universities developed programmes in new areas as such hybrid integrated flexible electronics, quantum technology, cybersecurity and IoT etc. to groom the talent pool and to inject new knowledge and expertise into the industries, which are necessary for the companies to remain competitive in Singapore.
